Scholarly Communication is broadly defined as the cycle of formal and informal mechanisms through which research findings are utilized in the academic community. Issues in scholarly communications may involve the creation, copyright, review, distribution, accessibility, and archiving of published and unpublished works of scholarship. The ways that economics and technological change impact scholarly publishing are also vital elements in the discussion of scholarly communications. This web site is designed as a resource that will provide University of Miami faculty with more information about scholarly communications. University of Miami Symposium on Scholarly CommunicationUM hosted its first annual symposium in February 2002. Streaming video of the speakers as well as the PowerPoint presentation of one speaker can be found on the symposium web site. The second annual symposium is being planned for spring 2003.
