Objectives

Through the study of photographs like those taken by the FSA in the late 1930 and early 1940s, we have the opportunity to discover what life was like in Florida during the final years of the Depression and at the beginning of the Second World War.

The curriculum has the seven following objectives:

1. To make students realize the importance of photographs as sources of historical information.

2. To help students understand how to handle and care for photographs as historical documents.

3. To make it possible for students to analyze photographs.

4. To make it possible for students to interpret photographs.

5. To make it possible for students to collect historical information from photographs.

6. To help students learn to integrate photographs with other historical information from a specific period.

7. To historically document their own communities using photography.
