Biographical Note

Rodrigo Prats was one of Cuba's most important composers of zarzuelas (Spanish operetta). Born in Sagua la Grande, Cuba on 7 February 1909, Prats was the son of another important Cuban composer and musician, Jaime Prats. Violinist, pianist, composer, Rodrigo Prats directed several orchestras in Havana and served as musical director for radio and TV stations. Among his most important zarzuelas is Amalia Batista, and many artists recorded his songs. Rodrigo Prats died in Havana on 15 September 1980.

Scope and Content Note

In the late 1950s, Prats arranged the music for Spanish dance performances directed by Magali Acosta. This collection consists of Prats unsigned arrangements for these dances. They are arranged in alphabetical order by title of the composition.

NOTE: Studio SMG: Memoria, 1949-1959, a yearbook of the Sylvia M. Goudie dance studio in Havana, was transfered from this collection and cataloged in the CHC's book collection.
