Memorandum of Extradition, January 21, 1936
This legal response to the French request illustrates the American involvement in the Machado extradition case. In this legal brief, the American government makes clear that it cannot honor an extradition since Machado was not a U.S. citizen and is a matter over which U.S. laws have no jurisdiction. With this, the possibility of legal action against Machado in the U.S. is eliminated, paving the way for him to join his family in exile in the United States.
