About
the CHC Digital
The CHC Digital
provides online access to materials in the University
of Miami Libraries' Cuban
Heritage Collection and other research resources for Cuban and Cuban
American studies. It is a production of the Cuban
Heritage Collection and Digital
Library Initiatives.
From
1999 to 2002, we published online the finding aids to 13 personal
and corporate papers collections and linked digital images of materials
contained in each collection to their finding aids. With funding
received from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, we have
digitally preserved over 3,500 items and created almost 14,000 digital
images.
In
2003, we have redesigned the CHC Digital Web site as well as redefined
our goals. With the CHC Digital,
we aim to provide a central access point to research materials held
by the Cuban Heritage Collection as well as act as a gateway to
other research tools for Cuban and Cuban American studies.
On this site you will find finding aids to all of our archival
collections as they are created. We continue to create and provide
access to digital images of selected archival materials from our
holdings. You will soon be
able to access digital images not only through a collection's finding
aid but also by searching across collections.
This will be accomplished using the digital media management
software CONTENTdm.
The
CHC Digital is also working to create and publish annotated bibliographies
and research guides to facilitate resource discovery.
And we are collaborating with University
of Miami departments,
their faculty and students, to use Web and digital technology in
innovative ways to promote and reveal scholarship in Cuban and Cuban
American studies.
